Guangdong Facts

Guangdong is a province on the southern coast of People's Republic of China, with 7.01 million people live in 7263 square km. As a beneficiary of the reform and opening up led by Deng xiao Ping, it has become the China’s most prosperous province, with Jiangsu and Shandong in 2nd and 3rd in rank and the GDP it made in 2009, roughly the same size as that of Turkey or Indonesia. Guangdong province contributes approximately 12% of China's national economic output with a wide-ranging set of multinational and Chinese corporations. Besides, the annual largest import and Export Fair it hosts in its capital Guangzhou city, Canton Fair attracts numerous people every year.

Guangdong borders Jiangxi and Hunan provinces to the north, Guangxi autonomous region to the west, Fujian province to the northeast and Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions to the south. Hainan Island is just located beneath the Guangdong Province on the map. The Pratas Islands, which has been traditionally regarded as part of Guangdong Province, is actually administered by the Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan.

Guangdong has a total of 4,300 km of coastline, facing the South China Sea to the south. The Pearl River Delta is the conjunction point of the three upstream rivers: the East River, North River, and West River. Besides, the conjunction points are decorated with hundreds of small islands. Leizhou Peninsula is on the southwestern end of the province. There are a few inactive volcanoes on Leizhou Peninsula.
