Anhui Facts

Anhui is a province located in eastern China across the basins of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River, with more than 64,61 million people live in 139600 square km area. Besides, Anhui province borders Jiangsu province to the east, Zhejiang province to the southeast, Jiangxi province to the south, Hubei province to the southwest, Henan province to the northwest, and Shandong province for a tiny section in the north.

The name of An hui is the combination of two cities in south Anhui, Anqing city and Huizhou city (now Huangshan City), and the abbreviation for Anhui is Wan, for there were historically a state of Wan, Mt. Wan and Wan river.

The North of Anhui Province is part of the North China Plain; the north-central areas are part of the Huai He River watershed, and the Dabie Mountains occupying much of southwestern Anhui and a series of hills and ranges cutting through southeastern Anhui. The north and centre parts are very flat and densely populated. The well known Huangshan Mountain locates in the south of Anhui province. The highest peak of Anhui is the 1873-meter-high Lotus Peak of Huangshan Moutains. Major rivers in Anhui are the Huai He River in the north and the Yangtze River in the south. The largest lake is the Chaohu in the center with an area of about 800 square meters.
