Shandong Facts
Shandong, which has over 91.25 million people in 15, 3000 square km area, is a province located on the eastern coast of the China.
As a province located along the lower reaches of the Yellow River, known as the beginning of Chinese civilization, and birthplace of Confucius, Shangdong has been served the pivotal cultural and religious site for Taoism, Chinese Buddhism, and Confucianism in a long history, such as the Buddhist temples in Jinan city; the most revered mountain of Taoism, Mount Tai; Confucian temple in Qufu etc. Nowadays, as the reform and opening up and fast development in economy, Shandong becomes a most affluent province in China.
The northwestern, western, and southwestern parts of Shandong Province are all the part of the vast North China Plain, while the center of the province is more mountainous, with the Taishan Mountains, Laoshan Mountains and Mengshan Mountains. The east part of the Shangdong province is the hilly Shandong Peninsula extending into the sea, which separates Bohai Sea in the northwest from the Yellow Sea to the east and south. The highest peak of Shandong Province is the 1545-meter-high Jade Emperor Peak of Taishan Mountains.
The Grand Canal of China enters Shandong from the northwest and leaves on the southwest. Weishan Lake is the largest lake of the province. With a 3000-kilometer-long coastline, Shandong Peninsula is rich in a rocky coastline with cliffs, bays, and islands.
