Hi again
these are our thoughts and recommendations
to fill in a form /questionnaire in front of the tour guides is very embarrassing and I don't think you can say exactly what you wish to say!
It may be better filling in online.
for example Lisa in Xian was a nice girl, but she was for ever on her mobile phone ( not sure who she was speaking to, it certainly wasn't business)
She covered what we needed to but did not seem to care too much!
The guide in Chongquing David was just OK but he left us for approx one and half hours in the ancient town Ciqikou, he just arranged a meeting time and point. Luckily we wandered round and found the temple which was fascinating.
I believe he could have explained more about the local shops, customs etc.
(We also went to a museum not far from the Yangzte boat dock which was very good)
He saw us on board The Blue Whale them produced a piece of paper and told John to sign it as his job was complete as we were now on board to be taken care of by the cruise company.
Only when my husband had signed the paper and handed it back to the guide he realised it was a questionnaire form and this was going to be completed by David, once he had left us.
This seems totally unfair as he was definitely the worst guide we had and why should he have ratings as good as other guides.
The driver we had in Yichang was terrible be drove like a total manic and he was not at all safe..
We had two very close misses with other cars and he nearly knocked down a woman pedestrian.i felt sick when we arrived at the airport. The guide in Guilin Joanna was excellent and defiantly the best guide we had.She was incredibly knowledgeable about Chinas life, local history, she was very approachable and she is a definite asset.
Jocelyn in Shanghai was also very pleasant.
She took us to the Z Dragon restaurant location on The Bund , which was terrible, regarding quality of food and dirty toilets
The breakfast in Guilin was very poor, but the hotel was very nice regarding location and facilities ( apart from the non smoking room on our return to Guilin)
Also I had anticipated a better standard of boat on the Yangtze, it was only just OK.
There was only one evening with entertainment.
All the Chinese were smoking in the non smoking cabins.
we were shown a cabin but refused to stay as it smelt so bad. Also the last point, on arrival into Shanghai airport we were arranging our own transport from the airport as we wanted to get the Meglev into the city ( we landed at the city airport Hongqiao)
Luckily we paid the driver to take us to Meglev and did a return journey to the airport ( Jocelyn and the driver waited for us )
Sally I do sincerely thank you for all your help and guidance and arranging such a lovely tour of China.
If I was planning again I would do one night in Xian and forget the Yangtze altogether, put possibly do 3 night in Yanghsuo
thank you once agin Sally
best wishes Helen
