On November 27, 2024, Farrell, accompanied by her boyfriend, returned to Yueyang to explore her roots. The visit to the Yueyang Social Welfare Institute and local archives offered her a chance to learn more about her past and the city's history.
Morning Visit to Yueyang Social Welfare Institute
Arriving at the Yueyang Social Welfare Institute at 10:30 AM, Farrell was warmly welcomed by Director Xiong and the institute's staff, who had been anticipating her visit with great enthusiasm.
During a heartfelt conversation, the staff shared stories from Farrell's time at the institute, offering her invaluable glimpses into her early years. To her delight, they introduced her to the husband of her former caregiver, who still works at the institute. Together, they exchanged stories, gifts, and commemorative photographs, creating a meaningful connection to her past.
The director then guided Farrell through the courtyard, pointing out the location of the old building where she once lived, adding another layer of understanding to her heritage.
Reviewing Her Records
Following the visit, Farrell went to the Yueyang Archives Bureau, where she had the opportunity to examine historical records related to her adoption. The detailed documentation and the assistance of the archives staff provided clarity to lingering questions, making this part of the journey particularly enlightening.
