Chongqing Transportations

Located in the joint area between the east, Chongqing is the economic combination of the Yangtze River valley and the southwest region. As a consequence, Chongqing becomes the hinge of transportation, post and telecommunication in southwest China. Chongqing can be reachable by water, land and air. You can enjoy the convenient and high-efficient stereoscopic traffic network with all parts of China and even a lot of large and medium cities in the world.

1. By Air

Location: about twenty-one kilometers northeast of Chongqing in Lianglu Town, Yubei District.

Jiangbei International Airport of Chongqing currently operates numerous domestic routes, including a plenty of provincial routes and international routes, such as Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Dalian, Qingdao and International routes include flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Rangoon and Singapore. It will cost at least CNY45 from the airport to downtown area by taxis.

2. By Train

Chongqing Railway Station, located in the city center, is only ten minutes' drive from Chaotianmen Dock. Travelers can go to most cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Guilin and Chengdu.
City bus Nos. 108, 112, 115, 120, 122, 125, 168, 207, 210, 232, 318, 319, 325, 347,365, 503, 606, 618, 808 and 873 pass through the railway station.
Light Rail Line 2 operates between Jiaochangkou in downtown area to Xinshancun in the suburban area.

3. By Coach

Chongqing has a nice road system and it is quite convenient to get to Chongqing from Chengdu which is about 450km away. The two cities have express ways connecting them and it costs RMB150 and takes about 4-5 hours for the trip.

4. By Boat

Chongqing Chaotianmen Dock is at the junction of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River. Chongqing is the best starting point for a Yangtze River Cruise. Tourists can take the ship at Chongqing Chaotianmen Dock to reach Yichang, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, etc. Today, water transportation is still favored both because of the comfort, leisure and the great views along the waterways.

5. City Bus

City buses in Chongqing are classified into ordinary, medium-grade and high-grade vehicles. The medium ones have air-conditioner while the starting fare is CNY1.5. Buses with two red stars are medium-grade. Normally, buses run from 05:30 to 21:00 and the ticket fare is CNY1 to CNY2. There are other options such as minibuses, air conditioned buses, and tourist routes.

Note:
Passengers are required to accept the check-up to their baggage by Security-Check Department. Please do not take with the flammable articles and significant hazard to get on the bus, and cooperate with the personnel for the check-up work.
City buses are very crowded during rush hours, so try to avoid these times.

6. Taxi

Normally the starting price is CNY5 for the beginning 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) and CNY1.8 for each additional kilometer. Time while stationary and moving at low speeds is also metered. CNY5 toll should be paid when you cross the Yangtze River Bridge or the Jialing River Bridge. The rate from 22:00 to 06:00 is slightly higher.

To solve the difficulty of taking a taxi at peak times, passengers can share taxis. For example: if two persons share a taxi and one gets out, he just pays 80 percent of the price on the meter. When the other gets out he pays the same as the first person plus whatever extra has gone on the meter since the first person got out.

7. Cableway

The Yangtze River Cableway on Xinhua Road crosses the Yangtze River. The Jialing River Cableway spans the Jialing River and connects Cangbai Road in the Yuzhong District and Jinsha Street in the Jiangbei District. They run from07:00 to 21:00. It costs CNY2 per person and takes four to five minutes one-way to cross the cableways.

8. By Escalator

Escalator near Chongqing Railway Station is said to be the longest in Asia. There is also one on Kaixuan Road. It is cheap for taking the escalators.
