3 Days Huangshan Huizhou Culture Experience Tour

Huangshan City, formerly known as Huizhou Prefecture, also known as Xin'an in ancient times, has a long history with many celebrities. Huizhou merchants advocated Confucianism, dominating state business as long as 300 years during the Ming and Qing dynasties. With the prosperity of Huizhou merchants, economic and cultural schools like Xin'an Neo-Confucianism, Xin'an Medicine, Xin'an Painting, Huizhou Bonsai, Huizhou Architecture, Huizhou Cuisine, and Hui Opera, were all developed profoundly. Huizhou Culture, alongside with Dunhuang Culture and Tibetan Culture, becomes China’s three regional cultures, being an important part of Chinese civilization.
Arrive at Tunxi District of Huangshan City by plane or bullet train. Greeted by the local guide and transferred to the hotel. Visit the best-preserved commercial street-the Ancient Street of Tunxi, built in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

After breakfast, drive to Xiuning County to visit the century-old shop of compass. Compass, also known as compass needle, was widely used in ancient navigation, aviation, exploration, adventure, travel, military and other fields to determine the orientation. For private purpose, it is mostly used for determination of house facing. Compass is one of the four great inventions in ancient China. Wu Luheng's compass shop, founded in 1723, has nearly three hundred years of history. In order to produce good quality compass, the old shop workers selected rare wood in Huizhou, using ancestral craft of seven manual processes, especially the ancestral unique natural meteorite magnetized pointer is of high sensitivity and of never demagnetization. People cleverly combined compass, calligraphy, fine arts and Hui-style sculpture into integration, as has made their products filled with more "cultural taste" and being unique. Here in this old shop, you may listen to the Master's presentation and learn the seven-step process of hand-made compass.
Afterwards drive to Yansi Town of Huizhou District for a visit to Zhuxitang Art Museum of Hui Carvings. The museum focuses on the production and development of mid and high grade handmade crafts of bamboo and wood carvings, being a protection and research base of national intangible cultural heritage. Here, you may enjoy bamboo and wood carvings like brush pot, bamboo root carving, classic mahogany furniture, decorative
ornaments, paper weights, etc. The contents are mainly classical figures, beautiful landscapes, flowers, birds, fish and insects, which have presented profound cultural connotation, proficient modeling language and exquisite carving art and are deeply loved by art collectors. During your visit here, you may learn the fabrication processes of Huizhou traditional bamboo and wood carvings and then to learn how to produce them under the guidance of the master craftsmen.
In the afternoon drive to Shexian County-one of the historic and cultural counties in China, which is well-known for its long history and profound Culture. There, you may appreciate the unique Tangyue Archway Complex (the largest one in scope so far in China, comprising as many as 7 arches constructed in the Ming and Qing dynasties), the Bao's Family Garden (the largest bonsai garden of Huizhou School in China). Then, drive back to Tunxi.

After breakfast, drive to China Hui-culture Museum, which is located in the western suburbs of Tunxi, where you will visit each exhibition hall of the museum to systematically learn about the constituent part, the rich content of Huizhou Culture as well as its glorious history. Then, go to Tunxi Hukaiwen Ink-stick Factory, visiting the workshops for engraving, smoke collecting, ink-stick modeling, drying and gilding to learn about the production flow of Hui Ink-stick. In the workshop of ink-stick production, you may fabricate a piece of ink-stick personally under the guidance of the master there. Hui ink-stick is one of China's four treasures of study, being one of the main tools for the Chinese calligraphy and painting.
In the afternoon, you will go to the Sanwei Tea House in Tunxi Old Street to experience Chinese calligraphy and painting by using four treasures of study (absorbent paper, brush pen, ink-stick and ink-slab) under the guidance of a teacher there. Depart for your next destination by plane or bullet train in the evening.
