1.Qinghai Lake –a sea in the middle of the mainland
Qinghai Lake, located in the northeast of the Qinghai Plateau and northwest of Xining City, is not only the largest inland lake in China, but also China's largest saltwater lake. It is the vast ethereal and magnificent mirror from nature to the Qinghai Plateau.
Qinghai Lake has an area of 4456 square kilometers with a perimeter over 360 km around the lake. The lake is narrow from east to west, and slightly ova from north and south. The lake is 4718 meters above sea level, 70 km from east to west, 30 km from north to south, with an area of 1920 square kilometers. It is China's second largest saltwater lake, and the world's highest saltwater lake, about 33 meters above the deepest. It's bright and clean and vast, worthy of the name. Tianchi is located southeast of Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve in Jilin Province, China. In ancient times, Changbai Mountain was originally a volcano. According to historical records, since the 16th century it broke 3 times, when a large number of volcanic eruptions spewing out lava, the volcano mouth formed basin, and over time, water collected into a lake. The volcanic lava erupted material deposited on the crater has become 16 surrounding peaks, seven in the Korean territory, nine in our country. These nine peaks each have its own distinct characteristics.
Tianchi is surrounded by the famous sixteen peaks of Changbai Mountain. The lake is 2192 meters above sea level. Tianchi is 4.85km from north to south and 3.35 km from east to west, with a total water area of 9.82 square kilometers. The maximum water depth is 373 meters, even more than the average water depth of 200 meters, also, and it is the deepest lake in China, with total water storage of about 20 billion cubic meters.
